Bagels with Wholemeal Flour

In the past I was scared to work with flour and yeast because I thought that is tricky and hard for an amateur like me, but now I enjoy making dough for bread . This was the start and after that I made different things from dough like bagels. I though that making bagels is like rocket science, but is quite simple if you follow me steps. I am going to be very precise.

INGREDIENTS (for 16 bagels):

  • 400 g wholemeal flour
  • 600 g wheat flour 650
  • 700 g warm water
  • 2 cube fresh yeast or 2 small bags of dry yeast
  • 2 little spoons of sugar
  • 20 g salt (4 little spoons )
  • 6 little spoons of honey
  • seeds for strewn – cumin, sesame, etc.

INSTRUCTIONS:

If you use dry yeast you mix it with flour, but for fresh yeast , you mix sugar with a few little spoons of warm water and yeast. Let the yeast for 15 min to make a foam. You mix all the ingredients for 10 min. After you finish the mixing, , you divide the dough in 16 pieces and you make in every piece a small hole like in a donut.

You cover them in transparent foil for 40 min and you let them grow.

You boil some water and then you add honey. In that water you put the bagels one by one for 10-15 sec for each side. After that you put them in a dry paper ,  spread the seeds and you put all of them in the oven for 20-25 min at 200 degrees .

Voila, you made bagels ! Now you can use them to make sandwiches , with nutella or whatever you have in mind .
